United States of America -- Maryland -- Howard County -- Ellicott City
Scope and Contents:
The folder includes worksheets and historical information about Ilchester.
General:
Situated along the Patapsco River, Ilchester, part of Ellicott City, was the location of John Ellicott's flour mill. Although Ellicott hoped that it would become a railroad tourist destination, that role fell to the nearby town of Relay. Instead, Ilchester became a location for mill and factory work. These three images depict buildings, the river, and the 1866 iron railroad bridge. The photographs were probably all taken by Dr. Gustav A. Liebig, Jr., although only one image has been confirmed as such.
