This accession consists of records which document the work of the Training Unit in the creation and implementation of training programs for the Native American community
and related organizations. Areas of training include the care of Native American collections; the creation and management of tribal archives; exhibition planning, fabrication,
and management; marketing Native arts; planning and managing American Indian cultural programs; starting a tribal museum; leadership; repatriation; fundraising; Native American
languages; and other related areas. Also included are materials related to professionals visiting the National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI) to study and use NMAI collections
for research purposes and to participate in professional development activities. Staff represented includes Karen Coody Cooper, Alyce Sadongei, and Jill Norwood.
Some records date from when the office was known as the Smithsonian Institution, Office of Community Services, Museum Training Program. Additionally some records date from
before the creation of NMAI and were created by Native American Museums Training Programs (1977-1981) and the Native American Museums Programs (1981-1989) both part of the
Smithsonian Institution, Office of Museum Programs. Lastly some records were created in collaboration between NMAI and the American Indian Museum Studies Program, Center for
Museum Studies (which later became the Smithsonian Center for Education and Museum Studies).

This accession consists of records documenting the administration of the Golden Lion Tamarin Conservation Program (GLTCP). Originally administered entirely by the National
Zoological Park (NZP), Department of Zoological Research, the GLTCP focused on the conservation of the golden lion tamarin in its natural habitat and was responsible for the
release of captive-born golden lion tamarins into the Reserva Biológica de Poço das Antas (Brazil). In 1992, overall administration of the program was transferred to the Brazilian
non-governmental organization, Associação Mico-Leão-Dourado. The Department of Zoological Research continued to administer NZP's involvement in reintroduction, tracking, and
conservation education. Topics documented in this accession include fund raising, budget, conservation training, studbook administration, policies, publicity, research publication,
evaluation of calling patterns, observation of released golden lion tamarins, reintroduction logistics, and involvement with international conservation organizations and committees.

This accession consists of records created and maintained by Christen M. Wemmer documenting administrative, fund raising, research, and outreach activities at the Conservation
and Research Center (CRC), a portion of the National Zoological Park (NZP). Wemmer served as Curator-in-Charge, 1975-1977; Associate Director for Conservation, 1978-2004;
and Research Associate, 2004- . Major topics include training courses, special events, the CRC Foundation, and initiatives in Myanmar (Burma). A large portion of this accession
includes images of animals at CRC and other zoos as well as CRC facilities and staff. Other materials include correspondence, memoranda, reports, planning documents, training
materials, proposals, lecture notes, audiotapes, and related materials. Some materials are in electronic format. Some materials pre-date Wemmer's association with the Smithsonian
and may have been collected from other zoos.
This accession consists of records documenting the programs and activities of the Noah's Network, formerly known as the NOAHS (New Opportunities in Animal Health Sciences)
Center and the NOAHS Network. Noah's Network is a collaboration of geneticists, veterinarians, and reproductive biologists to advance species science and conservation. Noah's
Network also serves as a development, marketing, and education network for the organization. Noah's Network and its predecessor organizations are administered by the National
Zoological Park, but remain a separate organization. Materials include correspondence and memoranda; newsletters and other publications; clippings; photographs; curriculum

This accession consists of records documenting the relocation and restoration of three Saturn V rockets the National Air and Space Museum (NASM) acquired from the National
Aeronautics and Space Administration in the early 1970s, when the Apollo Space Program concluded. One rocket, consisting entirely of stages and spacecraft intended to be launched,
is on display at the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. The other rockets on display, one at the John F. Kennedy Space Center in Florida and one at the United
States Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama, consist of test stages not meant for flight. Curators represented in these records include Frank H. Winter and Allan
A. Needell, and there is material that was created and maintained by Alfred J. Bachmeier, NASM Collections and Facilities Manager. Earlier records dated back to when the Space
History Division, prior to 1987, was known as the Department of Space Science and Exploration, and as the Department of Space History from 1987 to 1997.

This accession includes records documenting the administrative activities of Patricia L. Fiske, Assistant Director for Administration at the National Museum of African
Art (NMAfA), with earlier records dating back to when she was Assistant Director of NMAfA. Material consists of correspondence, memoranda, and notes; NMAfA weekly reports;
project files pertaining to fundraising, object loans, website development, storage, and publications; Collection Information System Management Committee mission statement,
meeting minutes, and reports; contracts; and NMAfA exhibition planning information, which primarily includes budget summaries, loan agreements, and grant proposals. Also includes
information on the Art Bureaus Collections Information System (ARTCIS) project, a collaborative effort between Smithsonian art museums to develop a common automated off-the-shelf
collections data system to be implemented in each bureau, with support from an information technology contractor.
These records primarily document special events held at the Museum from 1991 through 1993. Event files include lists of participants, invitation samples and mailing
lists, contracts with talent and caterers, publicity, and press clippings. Materials also include some membership records and files from the Museum's benefit auctions from

Historical Note:
In 1990, Michele Raphoon assumed the dual title of Membership Coordinator and Special Events Coordinator, and the next year she became Membership and Special Events
Manager. The office was reconfigured in 1993, and the membership and special events functions were separated. By FY 1994, Pamela Haylock had become Special Events Coordinator.
