"The Pedi homestead usually has two or more huts: a main living-room with a cone-on-cylinder cooking hut and a cone-on-cylinder store or bedroom. The huts are arranged around an open space (lapa) which is the main living area during summer. The entire area is enclosed by a rubble or clay wall, leaving a gateway (kgora)." [Oliver P., 1998: Encyclopedia of Vernacular Architecture of the World. The Sub-Saharan Africa, Southern Africa. Cambridge University Press].
