These records include receipts from express companies for shipments from the Smithsonian Institution. Entries usually give little or no information on contents of shipments,
although more information is included for 1879-1884. One volume is for shipments by sea. The materials document the work of Stephen C. Brown, Registrar, 1880-1919.
