This series includes photographs, glass plate negatives, and albums that depict Edmund Charles Tarbell, his studio, family, friends, exhibition installations, and artwork. There are three family albums, the oldest of which dates from the 1850s and includes tintypes and black & white photographs of various members of the Tarbell and Souther families along with annotations. There are numerous photographs of the house Tarbell owned in New Castle, New Hampshire, as well as the studio, the surrounding area, and several horses. Most of the material is undated so dates are approximate.
Arrangement:
Photographs of Edmund Charles Tarbell are at the beginning of the series, followed by the rest of the photographs which are loosely arranged by subject. Although photographic materials are usually arranged by subject, the nitrate negatives and the bulk of the glass plate negatives were both grouped by format. The nitrate negatives were roughly sorted by subject.
