"Irrigating the 3-acre Lower Cut Meat Creek Indian School garden by flooding, but we found that the surface ground was so porous that sub-irrigation was a complete satisfactory way to irrigate. I never saw such Irish potatoes, enough to feed the children for months, celery two feet tall, tomatoes that the fruit from two bushels would fill a 100-lb. grain bag, and watermelons by the wagonload." A pond is located east of the big tree in the center of the photograph (cf. BAE Negative Number 53374) and was the source for irrigating the garden. -- Information [by Bratley] with copy negative from BIA (BAE Catalog Number 4368).
