Performance Art Projects

Collection Creator:
Truck, Fred  Search this
Type:
Archival materials
Date:
1979-1996, 2017
Scope and Contents:
Series comprises records of three of Truck's performance art projects: the Des Moines Festival of the Avant Garde, Electric Bank, and Performance Bank.

Records of the Des Moines Festival of the Avant Garde include a June 1998 letter from the Des Moines Art Center enclosing "newly printed catalogues and photographic material" the art center had borrowed for a 50th anniversary celebration of the festival. The mounted photographs and catalog from the festival may have been part of the material returned by the center. Also found here is 2008 documentation in the form of a receipt for registering the domain name for desmoinesfestivalavantgarde.org and a photocopy of the festival catalog.

Records relating to Electric Bank, a nonprofit foundation supporting performance art, include founding and administrative documents such as articles of incorporation, corporate certificates, amendments, private foundation status documentation, directors and annual reports, scattered meeting minutes, and records of dissolution in 1995.

Performance bank records include "biographies" which consist of biographical summaries and other material sent by artists in response to Truck's invitation to participate in Performance Bank, including letters, mail art, printed material, photographs, and other items. Additional documentation includes layouts for and photographs of Truck participating in "A silent poem performed in mime by one or more persons as desired," a performance art project by Opal L. Nations, Fred Truck, and Tim Benson; a box of mail art compiled by Jürgen Olbrich; and memos, scripts, and visuals, relating to a performance art project copyrighted 1982 by Truck.
