Scope and Contents:
This collection includes technical development reports, booklets, periodicals, lab books, and reports dealing with radar. Included is material from Aeronautical Radio, Inc., American Telephone and Telegraph Company, Bell Telephone System, Commonwealth and Empire Conference on Radio for Civil Aviation (CERCA), Collins Radio Company, General Electric, the Institute of Radio Engineers and the U.S. Department of Commerce. Also included are copies of Moseley's patents of 'Aircraft Flight Indicator and Control System Therefor', 'Cathode Ray Flight Indicator' (what Moseley called a flight ray), and a patent for 'Radio Controlled Pilot System.'

Biographical / Historical:
Francis L. Moseley was a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army. He participated in the VHF Omni-Directional Range (VOR) Navigation System and other flight experiments in automatic flight control for all-weather operations. Moseley wrote articles and booklets dealing with the general problems of automatic control of aircraft landing, which are included in this collection. He also worked on the Sperry flight ray system, a cathode ray flight indicator. Moseley was employed at Collins Radio Company and was a member of the Aeronautical Radio, Inc. (ARINC.)
