The house was built in 1840 on 300 acres. In 1920, the house was enlarged, swimming pool added, and landscape improved. Formal gardens were not a part of the landscape. The estate was subdivided from 300 acres; and consisted of ten acres in 1975. In 1975, the pool was rehabilitated with a large terrace, bathhouse and wetbar facilities. "Improvements were made to produce an established appearance, rather than display newness and new materials." (Bentley, 1980)
