This accession consists of materials documenting the history of the Friends of the National Zoo (FONZ) and its activities in support of the National Zoological Park
(NZP) and the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute (SCBI). As a nonprofit partner of NZP and SCBI, FONZ raises funds for mission support, manages a large volunteer force,
and creates and conducts a wide variety of educational products and programs. Many of the materials in this accession document not just the history of FONZ, but the history

among these records are the annotated Chairman's copy of the Smithsonian Blue Ribbon Commission report on NMAH; extensive documentation in regard to the NMAH Public Space
Renewal Project; a comprehensive introduction for the NMAH board in 1999, which provides a broad overview of the museum in that era; and plans for a NMAH collection storage

and related organizations. Areas of training include the care of Native American collections; the creation and management of tribal archives; exhibition planning, fabrication,

languages; and other related areas. Also included are materials related to professionals visiting the National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI) to study and use NMAI collections

This accession consists of records documenting the administration of the Golden Lion Tamarin Conservation Program (GLTCP). Originally administered entirely by the National
Zoological Park (NZP), Department of Zoological Research, the GLTCP focused on the conservation of the golden lion tamarin in its natural habitat and was responsible for the
release of captive-born golden lion tamarins into the Reserva Biológica de Poço das Antas (Brazil). In 1992, overall administration of the program was transferred to the Brazilian
non-governmental organization, Associação Mico-Leão-Dourado. The Department of Zoological Research continued to administer NZP's involvement in reintroduction, tracking, and
conservation education. Topics documented in this accession include fund raising, budget, conservation training, studbook administration, policies, publicity, research publication,
evaluation of calling patterns, observation of released golden lion tamarins, reintroduction logistics, and involvement with international conservation organizations and committees.
