Tapes document Jules Olitski and Mark Golden delivering a lecture entitled "The Artist's View: Color, Technology, and Style in Postwar Art" as part of the Color Symposium held in the Museum Nov. 11-Nov. 16, 1997, in the Lemelson Center's New Perspectives series. Harry Rand served as moderator.
This lecture and discussion offers an unusal look at how the invention of new pigments, often at the urging of artists, together with new methods of application, advance the vocabulary and depth of painting.

The presentation documents author and environmentalist Lester Brown, as interviewed by Marc Pachter. Brown discusses the challenges of sustaining civilization. Scope and Contents:
An interview with inventor Daniella Reichstetter, who discusses her "gyrowheel" invention, which replaces the front wheel of a child's bike and rights the bike whenever it starts to tip. Reichstetter founded Gyrobike in 2007. The technology behind the gyrobike was developed at Dartmouth College and is protected under U.S. Patents 7,314,225 and 7,597,337.

The Jerome and Dorothy Lemelson Center for the Study of Invention and Innovation was founded in 1995 at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History through a generous gift from the Lemelson Foundation. The Lemelson Center's mission is to document, interpret, and disseminate information about invention and innovation, to encourage inventive creativity in young people, and to foster an appreciation for the central role of invention and innovation in the history of the United States.
