One of four reels 16mm motion picture film taken during Johnny and Pauline Falk's 1937 trip to China, Korea and Japan. The reel mixes color and black and white footage. Kodak had only recently made color film available, so this may be among the earliest color footage of many of the locations the Falks visited.

Biographical / Historical:
The Falks took one of the inaugural Pan Am Clipper flights to China in 1937. Myron S. (Johnny) Falk Jr., and his wife Pauline Baerwald Falk were active philanthropists, prominent Asian art collectors and were both active in the Jewish and Art communities.

Photographs include albumin prints, cabinet cards, tintypes, and black and white prints depicting John Calvin Ferguson, his family, various Chinese officials, his Peking home, and outdoor views of Shanghai. Two photograph albums include travel snapshots in China and photographs commemorating Ferguson and his wife's 50th wedding anniversary. Three photograph albums are in traditional Chinese binding, and include photographs of Ferguson's collection of paintings and objects given to Nanjing University in 1934, and photographs of styles of landscape paintings.

It includes woodcuts from Cesare Vecellio's Habiti antichi e moderni and prints from Jan Huygen van Linschoten's Itinererio, of 1596, and the complete set of the dashavatara, the ten main incarnations of the god Vishnu in French and Dutch editions, and various prints by Picart of Asia, and woodcuts of Sebastian Münster's Cosmographia.
