The Social and Reproductive Development of the Giant Panda by Dr. Devra Kleiman
Description:
Dr. Devra Kleiman was a biologist who worked at the National Zoological Park and was best known for her research on Golden Lion Tamarins and Giant Pandas. Dr. Kleiman started studying the behavior of giant pandas at the Zoo after two giant pandas, Ling-Ling and Hsing-Hsing, were presented by the Chinese government as a gift to the United States in 1972. Her research ultimately changed much of what scientists thought they knew about the social and reproductive development of the Giant Panda. This short clip is from the beginning of the film which is 30 minutes long. In the video, Kleiman discusses the challenges of getting the pandas to mate successfully and also includes several shots of the pandas at play with one another.
