Illustrated title page depicts a political cartoon of a man seated by a bucket blowing bubbles from a pipe. Each bubble is labeled: Balloon Comp. Sea Water Co. Sea Air Comp. Paving Comp. Another man blows the bubbles upwards with bellows, and three boys jump for them in the background
Interlinear cartoons depict the rise of several new companies. In the first, a cart labeled "Portable Gas Company" explodes, the horse pulling it falls on his head, a man's top hat is blown off, a man falls over backwards, a man runs away, and a man flies backwards into a startled woman's wheelbarrow. In the second, men and women dance together to music being played by two monkeys in clothing playing the violin outside a building labeled "New Patent Dancing Company, Grown People taught in one Lesson on hot Floors, NB Children half Price." The third features a building labeled "Hoax & Co. Share Agents" with four men holding picket signs outside: "New Cheating Company, Very few shares left." "New Broom Company, for sweeping out pockets." "New Brewing Company, Malt Hops and other Drugs not used." "New Milk Company, Warranted only half Water." The fourth depicts an air balloon in flight among the clouds with two passengers in the gondola with flags and a man sitting at the top of the balloon flapping wings attached to the sides of the balloon with strings. The balloon is labeled "Licensed to carry only light Goods & Lightheaded Persons." The fifth depicts four washerwomen at a steam washing machine, one of whom is sitting at a kettle and other of whom has gotten her apron caught in the mechanism. The sixth shows a man carrying his wife on his back accompanied by two sons carrying a kettle and a pot entering a building labeled "New Loan Company, Money Lent on good Security." The seventh depicts a man breaking up the paving stones resulting in a horse-drawn carriage losing control and a man with a top hat and cane waving his arms around. The eighth features a building labeled "New Sea Bathing Company. Hydrophobia Subjects & Persons quite mad (including Subscribers) dipped gratis." The ninth features four men by the seaside filling large bags with air and loading them into a cart labeled "Portable Sea Air Co." The tenth shows three donkeys looking into the tunnel under the Thames, labeled "A Meeting of Subscribers will be held to consider." The eleventh features well-dressed men with money bags racing onto a ship labeled "AMERI[CA]." One falls into the ocean, and another is held by his coattails by a man brandishing a weapon. A man in the background holding a lamp stands next to a building with the sign "£50 Reward Whereas Cheatd Co. have run away." The twelfth features a fat man with a fat dog gesturing at four skinny people with a skinny dog. The thirteenth features two men brutally forcing objects down the throats of two other men
