The National geographic sent writer and rock-climber Roberts to Dogon country along the Bandiagara escarpment to climb the cliffs up to Tellem burial caves and to descend into the villages below. Though not focussed on Dogon art, his reportage and Azel's photographs make frequent references to material culture--the granaries, togu na, the masquerades, the sand diviners, and the burial caves.
