Summary:
Smithsonian Secretary S. Dillon Ripley describes the progress of the National Collection of Fine Arts and the National Portrait Gallery, both housed in the old Patent Office Building. Ripley names and briefly describes successful exhibits that both museums have displayed, such as "The Hand and the Spirit", "From Within", the "discovery" of Alfred Maurer, "If Elected...", and "The Lazzaroni." NCFA director Joshua C. Taylor and NPG director Marvin Sadik are praised.
