Summary:
Letter from Joseph Henry, first Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution, to Edward Sabine, an Irish astronomer, geophysicist, ornithologist and explorer, May 12, 1853. In the letter, Henry sends payment for magnetic instruments procured by Sabine for the Smithsonian, and asks Sabine to send additional magnetic instruments for use in an expedition to the Washington Territory, which would later become the states of Oregon and Washington.
