Summary:
Portrait group of figures making plans for a college in Bermuda. George Berkeley, Dean of Derry (1685-1753), is standing at far right with his hand resting on an upright book. Mrs. George Berkeley (1700-1786) is seated at the table and is holding their son, Henry Berkeley (1729-after 1756). Miss Handcock is seated beside the mother and child. John James (d. 1741) stands behind the two women. Richard Dalton is seated facing right, writing in a large open book. Thomas Moffatt (d. 1787) stands at left and looks down at the table. John Smibert, the artist, stands at far left, holds a scroll, and looks out toward the viewer.
