Summary:
Above the entrance to the building is a panel of dark-colored bronze on which appear nine gilded figures, arranged in three vertical rows. The figures represent the British empire industries: a fisherman, a seaman, a coal miner --symbolizing the industries of the British Isles; a woman carrying a bag of salt, a woman next to a tobacco plant, a man holding stalks of sugarcane --symbolizing the industries of India; a shepherd --symbolizing the wool industry of Australia; a reaper with wheat stalks --symbolizing the wheat industry of Canada; and a woman among cotton plants --symbolizing the cotton industry of Africa.
