Summary:
A standing portrait of Christopher Columbus with his proper right hand pointing to a globe and his proper left hand pointing toward heaven. The sculpture rests on a square base adorned with two bronze relief plaques. The front of the base contains a bronze relief depicting Columbus holding a trowel in his proper right hand and kneeling in front of a cross he has just erected. His men stand and kneel behind him. On the other side of the cross there is a Native American and a religious figure giving a blessing. The north side of the base contains a bronze relief depicting a woman holding a cornucopia and standing in a chariot that is drawn by a horse. A bright star appears over her proper right shoulder. Columbus leads the horse and chariot toward a throned figure of Queen Isabella of Spain.
