Summary:
A standing figure of a World War I soldier with his arms extended straight out at his sides and his face turned slightly toward heaven. Beneath his feet are a cannon, a gun, a gas mask, and a portion of a globe. On his head he wears a helmet and around his waist he carries a bayonet on his proper left side, a canteen on his proper right side, and an ammunition box on his back. The sleeves of his uniform are rolled up and the bottom of his pants are wrapped with narrow strips of cloth. The soldier stands on a pink marble base adorned with four relief panels depicting battle scenes for each branch of the military service. On the front of the base is a relief of an eternal flame. Federal, state, and city seals adorn the sides of the base. Large stone eagles project from each corner of the base. Beneath the marble base are two granite steps.
