Summary:
An octagonal piece with statues on four levels. "Steps lead to the main platform where four eagles stand guard on pedestals. Between them are four seven-foot military figures representing Artillery, Cavalry, Infantry, and Navy, separated by relief portraits of Lincoln, grant, Sherman, and Farragut. On the next level are four seated females personifying Victory, Union, History, and Emancipation. The monument is crowned by a ten foot allegorical representation of the figure of Michigan, a female warrior wearing a winged helmet, holding a shield and sword.
