Summary:
Half-length portrait of a woman (modeled by the artist's wife) calmly seated facing slightly right, her head turned in profile toward the right. She holds an envelope in her left hand, which hangs off the arm of the chair. She wears a pale green dress and long gloves. She looks at a white bird who is perched on the back of her chair, destroying the letter with his beak and claws. A floral-painted screen is at right.
