Summary:
The monument depicts a standing portrait of Samuel Smith dressed in his military uniform from the War of 1812. He stands with his weight on his right leg and left leg extended forward. He wears a long cape over his uniform and holds a sword vertically in his proper left hand. His proper right arm is bent at his waist and he carries his gloves in his proper right hand. The sculpture rests on a square base adorned with inscription panels on each side. Three small, rectangular reliefs depicting foliage and a banner inscribed with Soldier, Statesman, and Patriot appear on three sides of the lower portion of the base.
