Summary:
This accession consists of records documenting the exhibition and program coordinating activities of the Office of Curatorial Affairs in regard to the planning, development, and production of the National Museum of American History exhibition "American Enterprise" and its companion book, "American Enterprise: A History of Business in America." The exhibition chronicles the development of United States from a small agricultural nation to one of the world's influential economies, and how the interaction of capitalism and democracy resulted in the continual remaking of American business and society. Staff represented in these records include project manager Andrew Heymann; design manager Stevan Fisher; collections manager Jane Fortune; and curators David Kite Allison, Peter Liebhold, Nancy E. Davis, and Kathleen Franz. The records, consisting of approximately 1,600 folders and 15,094 files, pertain to correspondence, memoranda, and notes; proposals; budget summaries; design development; scripts; meeting agendas and minutes; committees, symposiums, workshops, and special events; exhibition schedules; reports; contractual agreements; floor plans, drawings, and illustrations; grants; object lists; marketing; installation photographs; press releases; brochures; visitor surveys; fundraising; corporate sponsorship; and guidelines.
