In 1960s, when this photograph was distributed, the California Chamber of Commerce had just named Malcolm R. Currie (b. 1927) one of the state's "outstanding young men." Currie served as U.S. Undersecretary of Research and Engineering, in the Department of Defense, 1969-1973, and president of Hughes Aircraft Corporation, 1973-1977.
