This accession consists of approximately 30,000 email messages of Lawrence M. Small, Secretary, 2000-2007. Topics documented in this accession include special events, development, distinguished visitors, agreements, relations with the United States Congress, personnel issues, the Smithsonian Institution Board of Regents, the Smithsonian National Board, strategic planning, major contracts, external affairs, business ventures, and budget. This accession includes only those messages residing in Small's "Inbox," including email received and sent email which he copied to himself. In particular, Small forwarded a significant amount of email to Leslie B. Davis, Office Assistant, and Yong Lee, Special Assistant to the Secretary, and copied himself. This accession does not include messages filed into other folders. Small's email account was not immediately closed upon his departure. All materials are in electronic format.
