Shin-gwa-Bawassin--Image Stone, principal Chief of the Chippewas. The reader must be referred for the life of this worthy old chief to the book already named. If all the Indians were as good as old Image Stone, quiet would pervade their bands and peace be cultivated, yet he was a brave man, he studied and promoted the welfare of his people, defended them when their wrongs were to be redressed and lived and died, greatly respected by both Indians and white men. He was present at, and signed several Treaties with the U. States [sic]. [P. 13; see entry 04480050 for other work noted in this commentary.]
