On February 2, 1971, Vatican City issued a series of stamps recognizing the International Year Against Racial Discrimination. Portrayed on the stamps are two works by sculptor Corrado Ruffini. The 20-lire and 50-lire stamps feature images of the Madonna and Child. The 40-lire and 130-lire stamps depict the crucified Christ surrounded by doves.
The message of Pope Paul VI (1897-1978) on his fourth international trip, "OGNI UOMO E MIO FRATELLO" ("Every man is my brother"), appears on each stamp. There are forty stamps, measuring 30 x 40 mm per pane, on paper not watermarked, with perforations of 13 1/2 x 14. The complete series was 1,650,000 and has unlimited validity.
