Notes:
A tuned right-hand drum. Round body, made of wood or gourd painted orange-brown. Has one head, covered in skin, with a strip of bright pink leather around the rim. Leather straps hold the skin on and lace around the body. Applied to the head is a round patch of black resinous composition (said to be made of resin, oil, and wax) which lowers the pitch. Played in conjunction with the baya drum, it is considered an instrument of chamber music and produces soft and subdued tones.
