Notes:
Two flat pieces of wood carved into a decorative shape, then painted black and etched with lines, revealing light-colored wood beneath. Two sets of interlocking wooden pieces attached to main pieces with strips of red cotton cloth. According to Chisato Dubreuil, this is used to decorate the front bow of the canoe model (E430623). Made for the 1999 NMNH exhibit "Ainu: Spirit of a Northern People" using traditional Ainu materials and techniques.
