Notes:
Goes with boat, E430623-0. 2 parts: rope and sail with masts. Rope is made of Japanese linden bark. Sail is made of wood strips laid side-by-side and twined together. Wood mast poles are attached to the sides of the sail, and a metal support is sewn along length of back. Red and black cloth strips woven in to make herringbone/ diamond pattern. Made for the 1999 NMNH exhibit "Ainu: Spirit of a Northern People" using traditional Ainu materials and techniques.
