RED SILK UPPERS EMBROIDERED IN SILK W/GREEN, PINK, LAVENDAR FLORAL AND BUTTERFLY DESIGN. TOP EDGED WITH WHITE SILK EMBROIDERY IN SCALLOP DESIGN. LEATHER SOLES. INTERIOR LINED WITH PINK COTTON CLOTH. MADE PRIOR TO 1911. (ACCORDING TO CHANG-SU HOUCHINS, MUSEUM SPECIALIST, DEPT. OF ANTHROPOLOGY 1911 IS THE PROHIBITION DATE FOR BINDING WOMEN'S FEET.)
Dr. David C. Ko, a medical doctor and collector of Chinese footbinding shoes, indicates that these shoes were manufactured, not made by hand. He did not indicate whether or not the shoes were authentic footbinding shoes.
