Illus. p. 191 in Bailey, Garrick A., and Daniel C. Swan. 2004. Art of the Osage. Seattle: University of Washington Press/Saint Louis Art Museum. Identified there as a girl's scarf shirt. "This stunning girl's shirt is made from several scarves imported from China. Osage women cut and sewed together different parts of the scarves to achieve an Osage aesthetic. The bold use of red, white, and black indicates a personal preference for war colors. The German silver pin attached to the top complements the circular shapes throughout the shirt. The level of high fashion and the sensuality of the shirt's design were intended to attract suitors and impress others with the well-being and high standing of the young woman's family."
Illus. p. 86 in Swan, Daniel, Jim Cooley, and Principal Chief Geoffrey Standing Bear. 2019. Wedding Clothes and the Osage Community: a Giving Heritage. Bloomington: Indiana University Press. https://hdl.handle.net/2022/22292 . Identified there: "Child's blouse with brooch, Osage, ca. 1900. Silk fabric, satin ribbon, German silver. These are referred to as handkerchief blouses, constructed from four silk handkerchiefs."
