Inscribed on drum: "From Dr. Black Chicken, medicine man, Fort Peck, Montana. Presented by F.A. Hunter." From card: "Double headed. One face painted black, the other has picture of a man with buffalo headdress (?). Two horns are nailed at the side of the drum. This is said to have belonged to Black Chicken, medicine man, Fort Peck. Loan: National Institute of Health 5/1/71. Returned to the Dept. of Anthropology 11/9/71."
There was a F. (Frank) A. Hunter who was a clerk at the Fort Peck Agency in the late 19th century, which may be the person referenced in the inscription on the drum.
