CUSTER'S LAST STAND. LOANED TO THE WALKER ART CENTER AUGUST 8, 1972. RETURNED TO THE DEPT. OF ANTHROPOLOGY 1-17-1973. Loaned 06/09/76 to National Portrait Gallery, Returned Oct 30, 1976" Object was lent to the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery for the exhibit "1898: U.S. Imperial Visions and Revisions", April 28, 2023 - February 25, 2024.
Though this artifact has sometimes been identified as depicting Custer's Last Stand/the Battle of the Little Bighorn, the source of that identification is unknown, and no documentation for this attribution has been located so far.
