From card: "A work basket with standard. This basket was obtained from Petra who died in 1903 [presumably Petra Pico (1834 - 1902)]. It is the last basket made by her before she lost her eyesight. She called he design "Queen Charlotte's cross"."
Reference: Brown, Kaitlin, and Dana Bardolph. "A Song of Resilience': Exploring Communities of Practice in Chumash Basket Weaving in Southern California." Journal of California and Great Basin Anthropology 38, no. 2 (2018): 143-62. It is noted about the design on this basket there in footnote 3, p. 158: "Records from the original collector, Dr. A. J. Comstock, state that Petra called the design "Isabella's Crown" or "Queen Isabella's Crown." A later owner mistakenly wrote the name as "Queen Charlotte's Crown," and that handwritten label has sometimes been misread as "Cross" rather than "Crown."
