From card: "'Ancient vase from ruin northwest of Zuni not far from village.' Illus.: Hndbk. of N. Amer. Indians, Vol. 9, Southwest, Fig. 4, pg. 606. '... polychrome pottery decorated with abstracted triangular feather and stepped cloud motifs ...' Illus. p. 166 in Jonathan Batkin; Pottery of the Pueblos of New Mexico, 1700 - 1940; Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center; 1987. Identified there as 'Ashiwi Polychrome olla, ca. 1700 - 1750; stylized feather motifs in black and red; underbody and rim slipped red. Jar's shape resembles contemporary Tewa and Keres examples.' Identified by Dwight Lanmon, 2007, as Ashiwi Polychrome jar, ca. 1760.
Object was catalogued in 1905 and identified as broken at that time. It was subsequently repaired.
