Notes:
From card "Polished joint of bamboo. Disk with perforation in one end"
Dr. Brian Diettrich (Senior Lecturer in Ethnomusicology, Victoria University of Wellington, NZ): "The card says the location is "Uala" and I suspect that is Weno Island in Chuuk (nose flutes in the Caroline Is. were generally only found on Pohnpei and the Chuuk Islands).... technically known as an overtone flute, [which is], as far as I can tell... unique for the Pacific and possibly elsewhere (I've only found cases of overtone flutes played with the mouth)." "Overtone nose flute... The flute is called 'aangun', which means softener or whisperer, and which indicates something of the sound."
