Notes:
From donor: "Natural fiber lava-lava: [this] [was] also woven by Ulithian women and given to me as a gift. This style is stiff at first, but softens after wearing. The intricate patterns woven into the ends help identify the person who has woven this beautiful item of traditional attire for a woman." Photographs from donor in NAA show lava-lava in use.
Handwoven fibers (grass?) in plain weave. Natural color background, with warp stripes in red and purple down the center and sides. Narrow band of cotton warps at the selvage. Supplementary weft patterning in purple near the ends. Long loose fringe.
