Description:
Rectangular case with rounded, snap-closure, hinged lid featuring a polychrome enamel vignette of five gentlemen or cavaliers in brightly-colored clothing gathered around a white cloth-covered table with wine as they listen to one of their group playing a lute; scene set under a flowering tree outside a brick building with balustrade and landscape to right. Flat bottom is elaborately engraved with monogram "WJC(?)". Push-button catch. Gold washed interior. Enamel is signed at lower left "TC(?)" and at lower right "d'ap C. Meissonier fils", both in black. No other marks.
