Description (Brief):
James D. Smillie (1833-1909) of New York engraved these images presented as one print for two views, plates 37 and 38, after original illustrations by Arthur Schott (1814-1875). They were published in Chapter IV "Sketch of Territory Acquired by Treaty of December 30, 1853" by William H. Emory (1811-1887) in Volume 1, Part 1 of the <i>Report on the United States and Mexican Boundary Survey.</i> The volume was printed in 1857 by A. O. P. Nicholson of Washington, D.C.
The drawing titles are: "View from Monument No. XVII on the Cerro de Sonora, looking west towards Monument No. XV on the Sierra del Pozo Verde," and "View from Monument No. XVII, looking east towards Monument No. XVIII."
