Summary:
Pulse oximetry has been a staple of critical care for years, and has been used since the advent of portable battery-powered units. Pulse oximeters use a special light inside a probe that clips or tapes onto a finger to give real-time monitoring of pulse rate and oxygen saturation. Astronaut's used this oximeter to monitor their own levels.
NASA transferred this unit to the Museum in 2012.
