Silver Star Medal; five point silver star with raised five point silver star in center surrounded by laurel leaf wreath; Reverse: engraved text "FOR GALLANTRY IN ACTION MAURICE F. GRAHAM"; ribbon comprised of center red stripe boarded by verticle white and blue stripes.

This medal was authorized on July 9, 1918 but instituted in 1932. The medal awarded for gallantry in action against an enemy of the United States.
This medal was presented to Maurice F. Graham on July 9, 1918 and the citation follows:
By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Second Lieutenant (Air Service) Maurice F. Graham, United States Army Air Service, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Second Lieutenant Graham distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving as a Pilot with the American Expeditionary Forces, in action during the Battle of the Argonne Forest, from 26 September to 6 October 1918.
