[1] According to Acquisition Justification, Mr. Ellsworth was in the possession of this calligraphy from at least in 1987-88. “In 1987-88 he gave eight works of calligraphy to the Freer Gallery of Art. Six works came to [Freer and Sackler Galleries] immediately, but Mr. Ellsworth retained these two favorite pieces for display in his home until his demise.
