[3] According to a note in the Accession File, Collections Management Office, this object is from the Theobald collection, and was therefore probably purchased from Henry Studdy Theobald in 1902, along with many other Whistler pieces from the Theobald Collection. However, there is no specific purchase information regarding this object.

[5] The original deed of Charles Lang Freer's gift was signed in 1906. The collection was received in 1920 upon the completion of the Freer Gallery.
