Abstract:
The journal documents the work of George Sprague Myers in the southwestern United States including California, Texas, and Arizona, April 9 - June 3, 1929. Entries are dated and narrative in structure. They describe travel details (time of days, transportation, mileage); field work locations; amphibians and fish observed (referred to by scientific name) including quantity, appearance, and notes relating to their environment; lists of specimens collected with information about kind, locality, sex, and notes; daily work and activities; individuals with whom worked; and photographs taken. Includes some sketches as well as pasted and loose inserts (maps, ephemera, cards). Includes a summary of the trip's results relating to the range of Pseudemys elegans, Arizona elegans, Bufo cognatus, Bufo woodhousii, Bufo cognatus californicus, Aneides lugubris, and Uta miroscutata. Locations include the Los Angeles River.
