Abstract:
This item consists of a folder of data collected at sea by Pacific Ocean Biological Survey Program staff, on the Eastern Area Cruise 5, aboard the USS Shearwater, 1967. Materials include: fix data, bird observation sheets (At Sea Daily Log E), and additional data. Fix data sheets include: date, ship, cruise no., sunset, position (lat and long), miles traveled from sunrise to sunset, hourly positions (latitude, longitude, wind dir., wind sp., wave dir., wave hgt.). Bird observation sheets include time, species, #, dir., specimen or band no., and remarks. Remarks include physical descriptions of birds (colors, size, maturity), flock size, and behavior (sitting on water, feeding, calling, etc.). Also included are handwritten bird counts listing species and quantities observed, and four sets of bathymetric data prints with a letter describing the printing request. A typed preliminary report can also be found.
