Abstract:
This item consists of a folder of data collected at sea in 1964 by the Bureau of Commercial Fisheries (BCF) aboard the Townsend Cromwell, as part of the Pacific Ocean Biological Survey Program. The cruise covered a fixed grid to the east of the main Hawaiian Islands. Materials include: bird observation sheets, At Sea Survey Chart B, At Sea Survey Chart A, At Sea Survey Chart C. Bird observation sheets include time, species, #, dir., hgt., remarks, and loc. Remarks include physical descriptions of birds (colors, size, maturity), flock size, and behavior (sitting on water, feeding, etc.). At Sea Survey Chart B includes date, time and position at sunrise and sunset, and miles traveled. At Sea Survey Chart A includes abundance summary data for birds including abundance of bird groups (Shearwater-Petrel-Albatross group, Tropicbirds, etc.). At Sea Survey Chart C includes recorded time, lat., long., pres wea, vis, slp, dry b, wet b, dew pt, hum%, tl sky, opa sky, waves, sea temp, wind s, wind d, course, speed. Also included is a typed photocopy of a report of the December 1964 BCF Townsend Cromwell Cruise.
