The notebook documents the observations of Harrison G. Dyar, and appears to include rearing data. The inside cover lists years 1885 - 1886. Entries are entered (1 - 157), may be specimen numbers. Pages are numbered, 336 pages. Entries include varying levels of description, sometimes only identification. Longer entries cover descriptions of insect, with scientific name, sometimes collecting date / location, characteristics (appearance, colors, measurements, diet), vegetation, including through out the life cycle (larva, caterpillar, cocoon). There are references in entries to other entries (i.e. BB107). Includes loose insert notes augmenting entries. Includes sketches of insect anatomy. Locations listed include New York, New Hampshire (Jefferson Highland), Massachusetts. Entries include later notes, some dated, 1882 - 1890.
